Classic carols raise over £20,000 for St Barnabas House

The Boundstone Carol Singers present their cheque to Community Fundraising Manager, Sloane Vaughan

Classic carols and seasonal songs have helped the Boundstone Carol Singers raise over £20,000 for St Barnabas House since 2003.

The group was formed by Laura Fauvel, whose grandfather was cared for and supported by the hospice 16 years ago. Shortly after his death, Laura, who at the time was a student at Boundstone Community College in Lancing, got a group of friends together and went out carol singing to raise money for St Barnabas House.

Since that first Christmas, the group members have gone their separate ways for work, college and university, but every Christmas they gather together, united in their fundraising for the Worthing hospice.

Under the direction of Laura, who is now a music teacher at the Sir Woodard Academy in Lancing, the group treat Worthing's shoppers to a selection of songs every December. Since 2003, the singers have occupied a space outside Beales, where in 2011 alone they raised £4,037, taking the total raised since 2003 to £20,746.

Said Sloane Vaughan, Community Fundraising Manager at St Barnabas House, 'This is an absolutely staggering total and I'm thrilled that the Boundstone Carol Singers have chosen to support St Barnabas for so many years. The money they have raised will help us continue to offer our vital services to the local community and will make a real difference to the lives of our patients and their families. Thank you so much to the singers for their hard work and dedication and, of course, to the people of Worthing for giving so generously every December.'
