St Barnabas House provides specialist palliative care to adults in the Worthing, Adur, Arun and Henfield areas through a range of services, including in-patient care, Day Hospice and community care. 

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Day Hospice Team at St. Barnabas Hospice for 15 hours per week over two 7.5 hour days.

The role involves creating a structure for the day to include planning and co-ordinating activities, organising entertainment and outings whilst promoting a comfortable, relaxing and welcoming environment in which our palliative care patients can receive effective day care. You will assist patients with any personal care needs they may require during the course of the day with the support of the trained nurses.

You will also be responsible for assisting the physiotherapists in the running of our new rehabilitation class. Tasks will involve helping patients with their exercises, assisting with assessments and administration.

As part of an exciting new activity project involving children and patients, you will assist in preparing for the courses and the organisation of volunteer drivers. During the courses you will act as an integral part of the team to support, children, teachers and staff.

You will be creative, enthusiastic, motivated and highly organised and will benefit from the mutual support of other team members and volunteers.

An insight into palliative care and experience in appropriate care settings would be an advantage.

Are you passionate about palliative / renal care?

Do you have a comprehensive knowledge of pain and symptom control?

Do you possess a high level of communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work autonomously or as part of a team?

Have you the skills to lead in service development for other non-cancer specialist roles?

Spearheading our exciting new drive to support more people with non-cancer end of life care needs across our community, we are recruiting a unique combined role.

As Service Development Lead for the Disease Specific CNS team, you will also lead the implementation and growth of three Clinical Nurse Specialists, to embed and develop disease specific support for patients with end stage heart failure, liver failure and dementia. Whilst specific knowledge of these disease groups is not critical, the drive, enthusiasm and skills to develop support services for these groups of people across the settings outlined above, is essential.

As an End Stage Renal Failure Clinical Nurse Specialist you will work as part of the Community Palliative Care Team, providing specialist nursing advice and support to renal failure patients, families and health-care professionals across the hospital, community and hospice setting.

Applications are welcomed from Registered Nurses with extensive palliative / renal care knowledge and experience, preferably at Specialist Nurse level, and with some community and hospital knowledge or experience. Service development skills necessary if applying for additional part of role. You should hold a relevant degree or equivalent qualification, or an ENB 285/Diploma in Palliative Care. The ability to drive and car ownership is essential.

As a Nurse Specialist you will be working as part of the Community Palliative Care Team, providing 24 hour specialist nursing advice and support to patients, families and health-care professionals within the community setting.

Applications are welcomed from Registered Nurses with extensive palliative care experience and knowledge, preferably at Masters level. You should hold a relevant degree, or post Registration qualification in Palliative Care/Oncology.

We will support you to achieve advanced assessment skills, non-medical prescribing and DNACPR competencies.
