This week we celebrate Occupational Therapy Week. Every year it’s an opportunity for occupational therapists to be loud and proud; and encourage people who have benefited from occupational therapy to share the difference it has made to their lives.
This week our Occupational Therapy Team at St Barnabas House aimed to raise the awareness of the services they provide by having a stand in our reception, allowing patients and their families to find out more about the benefits occupational therapy can have on an individual’s everyday life.
When physical, mental illness, or the effects of ageing stop patients from doing activities, our team of Occupational Therapists work with them to help them live their life, their way. That may be simply getting dressed, going to work or perhaps ticking off that something special on their ‘bucket list’.
On Thursday 8 November, Patients, families, and volunteers all had the chance to meet the Occupational Therapy team and ‘dress a biscuit’ in a way that describes what ‘living your life, the way you want’ meant to them.
Many decorated their favourite hobby or things they enjoy in life such as, cycling or walking their dog whilst others creatively decorated their biscuits with things from their bucket list.
