Legal & General Mature Savings division first started supporting St Barnabas House as their Charity of the Year in 2017.
The team set themselves an original fundraising target of £16,783, which was enough to pay for a whole day of all care services provided by St Barnabas House in 2017 – but they have now surpassed their goal, raising over £40,000 for the hospice!
Wendy Bardsley, Community Fundraising Manager at St Barnabas House, said: “It came as a complete surprise to be contacted by Legal & General Mature Savings division and told we had been chosen as their Charity of the Year.
“We can’t thank everyone who has fundraised for the hospice enough. It’s been a pleasure to partner with the Mature Savings Charity Committee who have been enthusiastic, creative and hard-working. As an organisation Legal & General generously match fund employee fundraising which demonstrates how connected Legal & General is to both the community and its staff.”
Simon Griffiths, Head of Reporting and Strategy in Mature Savings at Legal & General, tells us more about the partnership and the wide range of ways the Mature Savings division has helped support vital hospice care in the local community.
Our Mature Savings colleagues voted for St Barnabas as their Charity of the Year. This was due to the amazing care and support the hospice provides. Some of our staff had a personal connection with the charity, having had friends and family who have received care at the hospice.
Individuals have organised and participated in wide variety of fundraising events and activities. These include a bike ride from our headquarters in Hove to St Barnabas House, comedy nights, pub quizzes, makeup stalls, tombolas, raffles and a Brighton Pier to Worthing Pier walk. One team member even decided to extend his dry January for a whole year! We’ve also had colleagues take part in St Barnabas hosted events including their Night to Remember midnight walk and South Downs Trek.
Several teams have enjoyed volunteering for the hospice. A team from the Mature Savings Charity Committee spent a day in the charity’s Retail Distribution Centre in Broadwater, Worthing, helping to sort through donations for the hospice’s charity shops. The Finance Team have helped out in the hospice gardens and other team members have helped the hospice prepare mailing packs to send out to supporters.
The partnership has allowed individuals to learn new skills and build new networks in the community whilst having fun at the same time. Teams have had the opportunity to meet new people inside and outside of Legal & General whilst raising money for a hugely important service in our local community. When an individual takes up a personal challenge or organises a fundraising event. Currently, Legal & General will match fund the money they raise up to a maximum of £500 a year.
We love working with Wendy, Jo and the Fundraising Team at St Barnabas.
