Join our Worthing shop and wedding boutique’s 30th birthday celebrations

Thursday 31 January 2019

Our St Barnabas House hospice shop in Rowlands Road, Worthing, was our very first shop and opened in 1989. We’re celebrating 30 years of trading with a themed party on Thursday 14 February from 2pm, and everyone is invited.

As it is Valentine’s Day, we are delighted to have St Barnabas House Patron and local celebrity DJ, Ambrose Harcourt, ‘Mr Lurve’ with us. We are also pleased that The Deputy Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Hazel Thorpe will be joining us along with our hospice mascot, Barnabee, staff, volunteers, customers and donors.

We could not run our shops without the volunteers who provide outstanding support to our shop teams. One of our many volunteers joining us on the day will be Julie Humprey, who has been with us for 30 years. Julie started as a volunteer when the shop first opened and then became assistant manager. After retiring, she stayed on as a volunteer and has been with us ever since.

Julie said: “I was at the original opening party and it will be a real pleasure to be there to celebrate the 30th. I have enjoyed watching St Barnabas House grow over the years, and see the amazing range of services that the hospice now offers”.

Head of Retail, Jan Harper said: “Our Rowlands Road shop is very popular with the local community. Last year alone, our incredible team of volunteers processed and sold over 25,000 items that had been generously donated by the community. The profit made by the shop last year would pay for 4 days of all care services provided by St Barnabas House. This shows how much more we always have to raise each year to provide hospice services”.

“This party is a way to thank everyone for their support over the last 30 years and we hope that everyone will come along to the party to help us celebrate”.

The shop is situated at 11 Rowlands Road, Worthing BN11 3JJ, 01903 823424. Details on all of our shops can be found on our website www.stbh.org.uk/shops
