A team of courageous employees from Equiniti have registered to walk 26.2 miles in this year’s St Barnabas House South Downs Trek, helping to raise vital funds for their local hospice.
Taking place on 28 September 2019, the new circular marathon route is set to be the most challenging since the event began in 2015 and will see participants tackle steep climbs with breath-taking views across the South Downs, before crossing the finish line at the hospice.
Corporate supporters, Equiniti, hope to raise over £3,750 for St Barnabas House through taking part in the South Downs Trek, which is enough to pay for one day of all the care provided by the hospice’s Community Palliative Care Team.
Their Worthing office is just minutes from St Barnabas House and many employees have friends and family who have benefited from the specialist care provided by the hospice.
Phil Whiting, Specialist Reporting Team Leader at Equiniti, said: “Sadly, I lost my mum back in 2016, with her last days spent in St Barnabas. Not only did they care for her before she passed away, but they also supported my brother, sister and I through those difficult times. Without donations, this amazing place cannot exist. I couldn’t be more pleased to help support the hospice and try to raise as much money as possible so that they can continue with all their incredible work.
“We currently have 15 colleagues signed up to take part in the trek and suspect it will grow as we get closer to the event. Leading up to it, we have plans to hold several fundraising activities such as cakes sales, raffles, dress-down days and much more. With the trek being 26.2 miles, training is definitely on the agenda and myself and colleagues are planning some group walks leading up to the big day.”
“We are so grateful to organisations like Equiniti who encourage their staff to take part in events like the South Downs Trek. Their support means an enormous amount and we hope trekkers get the satisfaction of knowing that every step they take helps us care for people with life-limiting illnesses across West Sussex.
“Early bird registration is available until 14 July 2019 and costs £35 per person. There is a minimum sponsorship of £250 per person, however teams of six and over will benefit from 10% off the team minimum sponsorship total.”
Corporate team challenges are a great opportunity to bring together and strengthen relationships between employers, employees and clients.
