New year, new challenges for 2020

With new year’s resolutions well underway, we’re full of gratitude for the brave supporters who have already signed up to take on fundraising challenges for St Barnabas in 2020.

I thought I’d share a roundup of upcoming events as there are lots of ways you can help local people who are facing the challenge of living with a terminal illness.

If you see yourself as a bit of an adrenaline-junky, you can sign up to take part in a skydive on 28 March. While runners might be pleased to know that there is still time to register to take part in the Brighton Half Marathon on 23 Feb, with a few prized charity places also remaining for the sold-out Brighton Marathon in April.

For those happier on two wheels, our Hit the Downs MTB cycling event takes place on 3 May, with a 30km, 60km or new 80km route across the South Downs to choose from.

If this all sounds a little too exhausting for you, then you might like to get involved in our new virtual challenge – Fit Feb. Open to anyone, no matter what your fitness level, all you need to do is sign up to run, walk or swim a mile a day throughout February.

Personally, I’ve signed up to abseil 320ft down the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth in March. The abseil is now sold out, but we’ll be announcing a further date soon. I’m absolutely terrified of heights, so this will be a monumental challenge. However, I can’t think of a better reason to face my fear and step out of my comfort zone than fundraising for the hospice. Here’s a link to my fundraising page where I’ll be raising money for both St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House: www.virginmoneygiving.com/RosemarieFinley
