January Volunteer Spotlight – Robin and Molly

Monday 10 February 2020

Volunteer Spotlight is a new feature where each month we will introduce you to some of our volunteers. This month meet Robin and Molly, who say that age should be no barrier when it comes to volunteering.

Vols 325 & 7689 [1080×1080]

Robin has been a Community Companion since the project launched in 2012. He says he hasn’t looked back since! “I took to it like a duck to water – I really enjoy having a chat and sometimes a laugh. I think the patients really appreciate someone different coming to visit, but also I like having the company, especially after losing my wife. It is good to be part of befriending and helping to tackle loneliness.”

Molly, who trained in November, says “I took up volunteering as I wanted to give something back to my local community in my gap year between college and university. I hope to become a doctor, so being a Community Companion means I am gaining so many skills, not least building my confidence and also having empathy with other people. I enjoy the personal side of this role; being one to one with someone and building a rapport – I think they really appreciate someone to have a chat with.”
