Our Board of Trustees are all volunteers. They are responsible for the governance of the charity, overseeing and guiding the work of the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team.
Michael Rymer joined the Council of Trustees in 2010. He has been a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist in West Sussex for 24 years, retiring from clinical practice at the end of 2013. He was Medical Director at Worthing Hospital for four years prior to and following the merger with St Richards Hospital.
Currently Michael serves as a non-executive director on the Board of the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is a secondary care doctor on a Clinical Commissioning Group in East Sussex. A large part of his clinical practice was devoted to gynaecological cancer which brought regular direct contact with the hospice and this, together with the care provided by St Barnabas House to two of his immediate relatives, stimulated a wish to be further involved.
On the Council of Trustees Michael has a particular interest in the quality of care provided and the strategic direction of the organisation. Michael says: “I feel privileged to be part of an organisation providing the highest quality of care to individuals and their families when it is most needed.”
