Our Chief Executive and Senior Management Team (SMT) members support the Board of Trustees, leading the charity’s operations and overseeing the day to day running of both hospices – St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House. Heading up the various departments within the charity, the SMT meets regularly to review organisational performance, manage the implementation of strategy and agree policy.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Max studied for a BSc in Mathematics at Warwick University before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 2001. He joined the charity in November 2014 having previously spent over ten years as Head of Finance at Paula Rosa Manhattan. Max has participated in fundraising events for the charity, running the Brighton Half and Full Marathon in 2016, taking part in a Mud Monsters Run and cycling a 20 mile Southdowns trek event on his 1980s BMX.
Max says: Having spent 5 years working for Accountancy Practices then 12 years in commerce and industry, I needed a role where the end result was a service that made a real difference to people. When I came for my interviews I was humbled by the teams that I met, I really wanted to work here and I was privileged to accept the position of Finance Director. My work involves working with all teams from retail and fundraising through to the community and in-patient nurses, I love working with the varied teams and we all strive to ensure the best patient care is provided in all our roles. My favourite times have been when I’ve been able to speak to patients in our Day Hospice, they have so many stories and there’s lots of smiles and fun. Although we care for those who are at the end of life, we ensure everyone is comfortable and happy. This is a wonderful place to work.
