The St Barnabas House South Downs Trek will be back on Saturday 19 September 2020. Take on the epic 26.2 mile marathon distance challenge across the South Downs, taking in breathtaking views and glorious countryside.
Join the St B’s trek team on Saturday 19 September 2020 as you take on a socially distanced marathon walk across the beautiful South Downs while raising funds for local hospice care.
This year, we’ve taken steps to ensure you can enjoy breathtaking views safely alongside other participants, whilst maintaining social distancing throughout. Take part with a small group of friends, your family, or take on this challenge for yourself.
The walk will start and finish from different locations with staggered start times; walkers will naturally spread out along the 26.2 mile route, taking in the stunning views and fresh air.
Additionally, hygiene and safety measures have been put in place throughout the event to keep you safe. For more information click here: How we will keep you safe on the South Downs Trek
An endurance challenge at a full marathon distance of 26.2 miles, the first leg of the trek will take you north from Goring-by-Sea to Findon, where you can fuel up at your first refreshment stop.
The route continues north to Washington where you’ll stop and enjoy lunch. From Washington, head west and up onto the South Downs Way for a couple of miles before dropping south and making your way through beautiful farmland to reach your final refreshment stop.
The last leg takes you south through idyllic woodland, before re-joining your outward journey back to Goring-by-Sea. Full route map will be released soon.
Take only pictures, leave only footprints.
The closing date for registrations is Sunday 13 September 2020.
Head over to the information hub where you’ll find everything you need to get ready for your challenge. From training tips to kit lists and support with your all important fundraising, it is all here in one handy place!
Remember, training is a very important part of this challenge – the fitter you are, the more you will enjoy it. And don’t forget to wear walking boots, nothing can stop you in your tracks like sore feet!
Your £40 registration fee covers the cost of putting on the event only. To help us reach everyone who needs hospice care we ask everyone taking part to raise a minimum of £250.
Every pound you raise will go directly to support local people and their families cared for by St Barnabas House.
£35 will allow a patient to enjoy a bath in one of our fully assisted bathrooms.
£181 will provide for a whole night’s care for a patient, allowing their carer to benefit from a good night’s sleep
£250 will allow us to hold a social evening for bereaved clients allowing them to gain support from their peers and meet with others who have suffered a loss.
£329 will pay for a full 24 hours of hospice at home for a local person.
£625 will fund the cost of a 24 hour stay at the In-Patient Unit for a patient.
