There’s so many ways you can get involved and support St Barnabas House.

Grounds Maintenance Volunteer

We need you to assist the Gardening team to help with the upkeep of the grounds at St Barnabas House.

Due to COVID 19 many of our volunteering roles were suspended, however we are now carefully reintegrating volunteers back into key roles onsite and in our retail shops. Please read our latest updates here.


The Role:

We need volunteers to help keep the grounds around the hospice in a presentable condition for patients and visitors.

Specifically, we are looking for someone with experience of petrol and battery operated machinery to help maintain all grass areas and hedges within the grounds.

The role will involve:

  • Mowing
  • Hedge Cutting
  • Strimming

Your Skills:

  • Competent in basic gardening skills
  • Ability to use apparatus including battery driven apparatus
  • Flexible, adaptable and willing to work on your own or part of our team
  • Willingness to carry out instructions from staff
  • Reliable and good time-keeping
  • An insight into palliative care
  • Willingness to undertake training on Manual Handling, Health & Safety and the Control of Hazardous Substances (COSHH) and the use of specific maintenance tools where appropriate

Mandatory Requirements:

  • You will also need to be approved by the Disclosure and Barring Service
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality
  • Any personal grief resolved
