There’s so many ways you can get involved and support St Barnabas House.

Supper Assistant

You could volunteer as a Supper Assistant as part of our Catering Team, helping with the preparation and delivery of meals to our patients.


We need you:

Supper Assistants support the Catering Team to help with tasks such as:

  • Helping the evening chef prepare for the evening meals
  • Taking meal trays to patients and taking them away afterwards
  • Making drinks for patients
  • Preparing trays for the breakfast serving in the morning
  • Sorting kitchen deliveries
  • Keeping the kitchen and food serving equipment tidy

You will have the opportunity to be part of a team, learn new skills and make a difference to the running of St Barnabas House.

We will provide you with induction training which will include an Introduction to the Hospice, Food Hygiene Introduction, Health and Safety Awareness and relevant on the job training.

Your skills:

You will be:

  • Willing to carry out repetitive tasks
  • Able to self-manage personal hygiene, skin and other allergies
  • Flexible, adaptable and willing to work on your own or part of our team
  • Willing to carry out instructions from staff
  • Reliable and have good time-keeping
  • Physically able to carry out allocated tasks
  • Able to have an insight into palliative care
  • Willing to complete Basic Food Hygiene Training


You will also need to have been approved by the Disclosure and Barring Service.

You should understand the importance of boundaries and confidentiality.
