There’s so many ways you can get involved and support St Barnabas House.


Laundry Assistant

We are looking for a volunteer to assist our Housekeeping team with laundry, ironing, simple sewing tasks and helping to keep the laundry area clean and tidy.


What’s in it for you:

An opportunity to be part of a team and be able to work independently in an area which provides a support service at the hospice.

We will provide you with induction training which will include an Introduction to the Hospice, Health and Safety Awareness and relevant on the job training.

Your Skills:

  • A willingness to learn (Some of these skills you will already have and some may require training, which we will provide for you)
  • Ability to use an iron or hand press appliance
  • Willingness to undertake training on Manual Handling, Health & Safety and the Control of Hazardous Substances (COSHH) and the use of specific maintenance tools where appropriate
  • Ability to self manage personal hygiene, skin and other allergies
  • Flexible, adaptable and willing to work on your own or part of our team
  • Willingness to carry out instructions from staff
  • Reliable and good time-keeping
  • Physically able to carry out allocated tasks
  • Ability to operate all laundry equipment and appliances such as washing machines
  • An insight into palliative care


  • You will need to have been approved by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality
  • Adherence to boundaries of the role and organisation
  • Have resolved any personal grief
