Clinical Nurse Specialist – Respiratory

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (part time hours considered)
Salary: £37,220 - £47,250 p.a. depending on depth and variety of experience in a similar role

St Barnabas House, Worthing

St Barnabas House provides specialist palliative care to adults in the Worthing, Adur, Arun and Henfield areas through a range of services, including in-patient care, day hospice and community care.

Do you have a passion to care for people with advanced, progressive lung disease?

Currently we are seeking highly motivated nurses and/or physiotherapists with specialist respiratory knowledge, skills and experience of palliative care to join our team. Our aim is to deliver enhanced supportive care and palliative care to people with advanced progressive respiratory disease with a focus on non-cancer patients.

The ideal candidates will have a flexible proactive attitude and innovative approach to care delivery. They will work alongside our Palliative Care Consultants, existing Clinical Nurse Specialists and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver a high-quality patient-centred service. They will be expected to have excellent communication skills, be highly organised with recent palliative care/community experience.

This is an exciting time to join us at St Barnabas Hospice as we grow our community specialist palliative care team to support more people at end of life across 7 days a week.

This role involves:

  • Recent community/palliative care experience
  • The ability to work independently knowing when to refer on or seek advice
  • Undertaking holistic assessment
  • Providing specialist advice and managing symptoms
  • Supporting those who are anxious or distressed
  • Liaising with appropriate general or specialist services
  • Developing and providing proactive educational programmes for patients and carers
  • Avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions
  • Providing a rapid response visit
  • Enabling the patient to achieve their preferred place of care and death
  • A full driving licence and access to a car for work purposes
