Gardening Assistant

Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £18,420 per annum

St Barnabas Hospices offers specialist palliative care through two hospices: St Barnabas House provides palliative care to adults in the Worthing, Adur, Arun and Henfield areas through a range of services, including In-patient Care, Day Hospice and Community Care.  Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice reaching across Sussex and South East Hampshire. Providing care and support for children/young people and their families with life-shortening conditions.

We are looking for an Assistant Gardener to help take care of our beautiful grounds at our two hospices in Worthing and Poling near Arundel.  This new role involves assisting and supporting the Lead Gardener by maintaining and enhancing the gardens, water features and grounds. Ensuring that the visual aspect of the gardens and grounds are in keeping with the special requirements of the hospice and are at all times welcoming and safe.

Principal duties and responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance of both St Barnabas and Chestnut Tree House lawns, flower beds, trees, and landscaping
  • Assist in the maintenance of garden sheds/workshops, all tools and machinery
  • To supervise teams of volunteers and corporate groups on a weekly basis and ensuring guidance and support is adequately provided
  • Ensure Health and Safety guidelines are adhered to
  • Work with external suppliers

A full driving licence is required for this role.

An enhanced DBS will be sought, if you are successful in this role.
