We provide family support services to the loved ones of our patients as part of our hospice care. We offer various services including counselling and emotional support, chaplaincy and our bereavement service.
Being terminally ill or living with a life limiting disease can have an impact on many aspects of your life, whether you are the person with the illness, a family member or a close friend. A wide range of emotional responses might occur, including sadness, anger, fear, frustration and loneliness.
Practical and financial needs might have to be addressed and decisions taken. You may have difficulty in talking about these issues or struggle with thinking about your own needs at such a time. The Family Services Team is here to offer you support.
A social worker can offer you emotional support as well as advice on practical concerns. Our social worker can also help with the arrangement of your care following a stay as an in-patient in the hospice.
The hospice counsellors provide on-going emotional support or counselling to you and your family. If needed, they can meet with you in your home or in the hospice.
The Chaplain offers spiritual support regardless of whether you have religious beliefs or not. He will also liaise, if you wish, with your own faith community. The hospice chapel is a quiet space for reflection and prayer, available 24/7 for anyone to use.
The hospice continues to provide support through its bereavement service. For additional information please see our bereavement service page.
The work of the family services team is supported by specially trained volunteers who are able to offer you on going emotional support at the hospice or in your own home.
Our team administrator supports the work of the family services team and can be contacted by telephone on 01903 706341 if you want to find out more about our services.
