Volunteer Celebration Event

Join us to celebrate our amazing volunteers who help make hospice care possible for local adults, children and families.

Last year an incredible 1,300 volunteers contributed a total of 80,000 hours, saving the hospices more than £1.3m. And we want to celebrate each and every one of you! The celebration, being held during Volunteers Week, is a fantastic opportunity for you to meet other volunteers and staff, catch up on news from both our hospices, hear how we’re supporting families from a guest parent speaker and enjoy a beautiful performance from our hospice choir, Hospice Harmony. A complimentary buffet will be provided too. We’re pleased to also announce that this year, radio presenter Allison Ferns will be presenting and hosting our awards ceremony!

About The Heart Awards

During the celebration, we’ll be announcing the winners of our annual Heart Awards and we’d love you to nominate a volunteer who you feel consistently demonstrates our values.

Last year, more than 100 of our wonderful volunteers came together to celebrate and recognise their achievements for St Barnabas and Chestnut Tree House. The awards are our way of saying thank you for the incredible contributions of our volunteers, and celebrating the remarkable things they do every day.

Thank you to everyone who nominated someone for the Heart Awards! All winners will be announced at the celebration event.

Last year's event

We had a fantastic event with our Vice President, Sally Gunnell, presenting the awards. Our winners were:

💙 Stuart Upperton, whose paintings and murals are one of the first things people notice when they enter Chestnut Tree House. For 20 years, Stuart has donated his time and talent with his artwork.
💙 Maggie Zarins, who has led the St Barnabas Northbrook Friends Group for over a decade, helping to raise over £120,000. Described in nominations as ‘caring’, ‘passionate’ and ‘a superstar’.
💙 Mark Ward for his many years volunteering as a photographer at our events. His images capture the magic of events and are used to help promote future activities as well as giving something back to participants.
