Sunrise to Remember

Brand New for 2022! Our Sunrise to Remember event is a new sponsored walk at sunrise. We're looking for volunteers to make sure that the event's a huge success and lots of fun for all walkers taking place.

What roles are available?

There’s lots of roles on offer for the day (25th June) Timings are estimates and will be confirmed closer to the time. Or, if you’re free before the 25 June, then we’ve got roles behind the scenes on the run up too.

Please let us know which role you’re interested in when applying, or let us know if you’re up for anything too!

  • Set up the day before the event | 24 June 8pm-10pm |About: Help us set up Worthing Leisure centre so that we are prepared for our early start the next day. We will be unloading the van and setting up the main hall, this role requires lots of lifting heavy items.
  • Car Park Worthing Leisure centre | 3am – 4.30am | About: Bring out your inner traffic warden, and help our walkers as they arrive.
  • Meet and greet Worthing Leisure centre | 3am – 4.15am | About: Help walkers as they arrive, stand at the entrance giving walkers a warm welcome and directing them where to go, where the toilets are and when and where the walk will begin.
  • T-shirt stall Worthing Leisure Centre | 3am – 4.15am | About: Hand out T-shirts to walkers who have not come wearing one.
  • Start Line Worthing Leisure Centre | 3.45am – 4.15am | About: You’ll wave everyone off on their start
  • Route Marshals various locations within Worthing, Ferring, Kingston and Goring | 4am – 9.15 am | About: you’ll be required to stand or sit for the duration of your marshalling position, we do advise bringing your own chair. You may need a car to get to your position so please do state whether you have access to one when you apply. This role is about encouraging our walker on their challenge so all you need is a big smile.
  • Lead and end walkers | 4.15am-9.15am | About: To help keep our walkers safe we have a lead walker that sets off with the walkers setting the pace for the group. We also have an end walker that walks at the back of the group and takes down the signage once they have passed it. you like walking and does this sound like a position for you?
  • Volunteer desk |3am-10am| About: Help us sign in volunteers on the day and allocate any equipment and information they need. Meet some like minded people and have fun getting to know the local community.
  • Finish line: Cheering, medals and refreshments | About: Join us at the end of the walk and help celebrate!
  • Memory Tree on route | from 4.15am – 5.15 am | About: Help walkers remember their loved ones with our memory tree that will be out on route.

Behind the scenes

Could you help with some pre event support to help make Sunrise to Remember a success? 

  • Sunrise to Remember Awareness stand | When: 16 April, 11am – 2pm (flexible) | Location: Asda Ferring | About: We’re looking for two volunteers to help promote our new event. The day will involve handing out leaflets and answering questions.
  • Distributing leaflets and posters to local areas in Worthing | When: Ongoing | Pick up: St Barnabas House Hospice
  • Distributing Letters around Ferring to let residents know about the event | When: Ongoing | Pick up: St Barnabas House Hospice
  • Stuffing Fundraising packs with all of our leaflets and information |When: this is a weekly task at our Worthing Office.
  • Calls to previous participants letting them know that registration is open and that there is an early bird on | When?: First two weeks of April | Location: At Home
  • Stuffing information packs | When: Week commencing 25 May | Location: Worthing Office.

Find out about the event

You'll be there on the day to help 100s of walkers on the route around Worthing. Some will walk in memory of a loved one, for their own sense of achievement or for fun with friends and family.
