You can make a difference to hospice care

Published on: 31/07/2023

Become a member of the Public and Community Involvement and Engagement (PCIE) Group and you can help drive and direct our research programme at St Barnabas House. We want to understand what’s important to you, so we can improve the relevance, quality and impact of our research. This helps us make sure our research is focused on the needs and priorities of patients, carers, and their families.

Our PCIE group help us by reviewing documents that will be used in studies, sharing their ideas and providing different perspectives on current issues in healthcare. All activities are voluntary and optional, and when you sign up you can specify how much you would like to participate. Where possible, we try to hold PCIE group events and meetings as hybrid sessions so that you can choose to attend either in person or online. We also try to hold them at times that work for as many members as possible. You would not be required to attend every session.

Who can get involved?

We’re keen to hear from people who use or are interested in our hospice services. Maybe you’re a patient or a family member of a patient. Or you might be a member of the wider community who cares about excellent hospice care being available in the Worthing, Adur, Arun and Henfield area.

What commitment we’re looking for:

We’re looking for people on a regular or ad-hoc basis. When you get in touch, let us know if you’re interested in either:

  • Ongoing, regular commitment to join a core group overseeing our research activities at the hospices. Group meetings are typically held every 3 months.
  • Being part of a wider directory of people with lived experience who can be called on when we need insight or opinion on specific issues, such as a certain health condition, a specific health service, or experience of bereavement.
  • Both of the above.
