The aim of this study day is to support the development of compassionate and effective communication skills for clinicians and professionals working with people with life limiting, end-of-life conditions.

Learning outcomes

– Discuss why effective communication is important when caring for people at the end of life and those close to them 

– Identify blocking and facilitating strategies that influence communication at the end of life 

– Reflect on the use of communication skills to ensure that people can be heard and responded to appropriately in a sensitive manner 

– Demonstrate the use of effective communication skills in end-of-life scenarios
