Introduction to Syringe Drivers

Course details

This half day session introduces working with a syringe driver and outlines the benefits and risks for an individual and their family.  Attendees will learn how to safely administer medication via a syringe driver and there will be a practical workshop.

A certificate of attendance, not competence, will be issued.

Cost:

  • For all Sussex employees in health and social care: free (fully funded by NHS Sussex)
  • For anyone working outside of Sussex: £50 (1/2 day)/£100 (full day) all materials provided

Registered Nurses or Doctors working in palliative and end of life care 

Learning outcomes

-Explain the benefits and risks of a syringe driver for the individual and their family.

-Describe how to administer medication safely via a syringe driver. 

-Demonstrate how to set up a syringe driver and how to troubleshoot some common problems.
