What’s the hospice like at Christmas?

Here at St Barnabas, everyone works tirelessly throughout the festive season to make sure people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families have the best Christmas possible.

Care continues around the clock, as it does every day of the year. Day and night our nurses and healthcare assistants will be out visiting families, providing care and comfort at home so that patients can make precious memories with their loved ones at this important time of year.

For those who are aren’t well enough to be at home, the team make sure Christmas is as special as it can be. The hospice is filled with twinkling trees donated from local garden centres and families can decorate their rooms as if they were at home. We always have lots of twinkling lights in our gardens, and welcoming Christmas trees bringing the festive joy!

Our Living Well programme also found time in December to get festive with a wreath making workshop, allowing people time and space to get creative and connect with new people.

We also recognise that this time of year can be sensitive for anyone experiencing loss or have experienced a bereavement, the Patient and Family Support Team will continue to be there to offer support and a listening ear at what can be one of the most painful times of year.

Please help us provide hospice care this Christmas

could buy new art supplies, giving patients the chance to express themselves with the help of our Artist-in-Residence
could give a patient the chance to relax and unwind with a massage, aromatherapy or reflexology session at the hospice
could mean a family in crisis receives a visit from a nurse during the night, providing symptom control and emotional support
