What's the hospice like at Christmas?

Here at St Barnabas, everyone works tirelessly throughout the festive season to make sure people living with life-limiting illnesses and their families have the best Christmas possible.

Care continues around the clock, as it does every day of the year. Day and night our nurses and healthcare assistants will be out visiting families, providing care and comfort at home so that patients can make precious memories with their loved ones at this important time of year.

For those who are aren’t well enough to be at home, the team make sure Christmas is as special as it can be. The hospice is filled with twinkling trees donated from local garden centres and families can decorate their rooms as if they were at home. There’s carol singing, a visit from the Salvation Army, and the kitchen staff do all the cooking, preparing Christmas lunch with all the trimmings so that families can relax and make the most of what might be their last Christmas.

And for those families who have experienced a bereavement, the Patient and Family Support Team will continue to be there to offer support and a listening ear at what can be one of the most painful times of year.
