We’ve developed a new Southern Hospice Group Adult Clinical Education Prospectus for May 2025 – March 2026. As a newly merged group we're bringing together the expertise of Martlets and St Barnabas House to bring you a diverse range of end-of-life care courses for healthcare professionals. 

Frequently asked questions
We have sessions to meet a variety of needs for different services and different learners. Each course has been designed to support the growing need for knowledge, skill and understanding of Palliative Care.

  • Courses are free for anyone working in a multi-disciplinary team in the Sussex area.
  • For anyone working outside of Sussex, costs are: £50 (1/2 day)/£100 (full day) all materials provided
  • The details of each course specifics who is best suited to attend.
  • Our courses are suitable for anyone looking to provide holistic, patient-centred care for palliative and end-of-life patients, as well as their care givers and loved ones.

Several courses are funded by the local integrated care board (ICB) and NHS health care providers. We’re currently awaiting final confirmation of funding for courses. Please join our mailing list by emailing education@stbh.org.uk to be notified about any changes to funding. 

Each course page has a booking form attached, please fill this in, and we’ll be in touch with more information about joining instructions, additional information and payment.

Full payment is required before the day (or, first day) of the course.

If you’re unable to attend the study event please contact us as soon as possible

Provided a cancellation is made seven days prior to the start of the study event any fees received will be refunded if the notification is received less than seven days prior to the event, no refund will be made. However, you can substitute a named delegate to attend in their place. If a substitution is not agreed then the full cancellation fee will apply and there will be no refund of any monies previously paid.

Unfortunately, we occasionally find it necessary to cancel an event. Should this happen, we are committed to taking positive steps to alert you of the cancellation as soon as possible. Please note that we are unable to reimburse the cost of any pre-booked travel or any other costs incurred by the delegate in connection with the cancelled course

Our training rooms are wheelchair accessible, we have accessible toilets and the main education room can be accessed by lift or stairs.

Due to our Fire Policy, if you would require assistance during a fire drill, please let us know when you book and we will complete the relevant documentation to support you.

We can support reasonable learning adjustments, if given sufficient notice and information. Please complete the booking form and get in touch with us for further conversations on how we can support you.

There will be free provision and access to tea and coffee facilities.

For St Barnabas House courses: Our café in the main reception is also open 10am – 2pm Monday to Friday, serving hot drinks and light bites, accepting cash or card. We also have a vending machine for drinks, snacks and freshly made sandwiches, accepting card payment only.

For Martlets courses: Our café in the main reception is also open 10am – 4pm Monday to Friday, serving hot drinks and light bites, accepting cash or card.

Parking:

There is access to free parking on site to anyone attending training.

Please follow the driveway, past signs for the main reception. It’s a first come, first serve system. If you require an accessible parking space, please inform us when you book your course.

Public transport: 

Many of our courses are held at Martlets. Our address is:Wayfield Ave, Brighton and Hove, Hove BN3 7LW

Parking:

There is access to free parking on site to anyone attending training, but spaces are limited. There is free on-street parking on the surrounding streets, however – please be mindful of our neighbours and consider getting to your training via public transport instead.

  • The nearest train station is: Aldrington
  • There is a bus that stops nearby: Wayfield Avenue – serviced by the 5A bus
